On 8th Sep 2023, The People's Committee of Vinh Long Province had a working session with the working group of the French Development Agency (AFD) on the project to complete the Mang Thit River dyke (phase 2) - Hau River embankment, which section belongs to Binh Minh town, Vinh Long province as one of  climate change adaptation measures.

At the meeting, Mr. Hervé Conan - Director of AFD Vietnam informed about the results of field surveys in the project sites. The delegation also discussed the content of the investment project, implementation methods, and project funding plans. This includes AFD's funding and EU's non-refundable aid; and the tasks that need to be carried out by all parties to move towards signing funding agreements.

Representatives from Vinh Long provincial departments and agencies provided additional information on AFD's concerns such as greenery at construction sites, sand mining in the area, environmental impacts, as well as the fluctuation of the Euro against the Vietnamese Dong.

Mr. Lu Quang Ngoi, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Long Province, made recommendations on the project associated with local socio-economic development, while expressing the desire for close cooperation between both parties to ensure the successful and effective implementation of the project in the near future.

The province leader also requested relevant functional departments to coordinate and provide information during the smooth implementation of the project's research and evaluation.

Previously, the People's Committee of Vinh Long province submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Finance regarding the project to complete the Mang Thit River embankment (phase 2) - the section of the Hau River dike passing through Binh Minh town, Vinh Long province, under climate change adaptation conditions.
