On June 7, 2022, the French Development Agency (AFD) delegation led by Mr. Frederic Audras, Head of the Urban Development Department of AFD Paris, had a working session with the leaders of the People's Committee of Hau Giang province and relevant departments and sectors on the project “Nga Bay green and resilient city project in Mekong Delta, Hau Giang province, Mekong Delta region (Vietnam)”.

At the working session, the AFD representative provided an overview of the “Nga Bay green and resilient city project in Mekong Delta, Hau Giang province”  project. The project is expected to be implemented over a period of 4 years, with a total investment of over 1,211 billion VND. This includes a loan from the French Development Agency (AFD) of over 780 billion VND, non-refundable aid of over 40 billion VND, and counterpart funding from the local budget equivalent to 390 billion VND.

 While information about the project implementation was exchanged, Mr. Frederic Audras stated that this is a huge project that aligns with the set objectives, therefore requiring the comprehensive cooperation and support of the People's Committee of Hau Giang province and relevant departments and agencies to fulfill the project commitments. To prepare for the implementation process, the delegation proposes to organize a workshop in early September 2022 to present the initial research findings of the project for receiving feedback from all parties involved. Mr. Frederic Audras believes that if the initial steps go smoothly, the project will be implemented in 2023.

Speaking at the working session, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang province - expressed his gratitude to Mr. Frederic Audras and the members of the AFD delegation, while also emphasizing the significant importance of this project for the overall development of Hau Giang province and specifically for Nga Bay city. He highlighted that it will help many residential areas in the region avoid flooding caused by natural disasters and climate change. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa also stated that the local authorities will closely coordinate with AFD to propose possible solutions for the project and promptly submit them for consideration by the relevant authorities.
